Delete your HootCare account
Last updated: October 13, 2026
This page explains how to delete your account in HootCare, the speech-practice app from Hootcare, Inc., and what happens to your data when you do. You can delete your account in the app, or ask us by email if you no longer have the app.
Delete your account in the app
The steps are the same for parents and clinicians, on iPhone, iPad and Android:
- Open HootCare and sign in.
- Tap your avatar at the top left to open the menu.
- Tap Settings.
- Open the Account section and tap Delete account.
- Confirm. On iPhone and iPad you type DELETE; on Android you confirm a second time. Parents are also asked to confirm it's them first.
The deletion happens immediately and you are signed out. It can't be undone.
Clinicians in a practice with other team members: the app won't delete a practice that colleagues still use. Remove the other team members first, or email us.
Delete your account without the app
Email support@hootcare.io from the email address you sign in with, and ask us to delete your account. You can also use our support form. We act only on requests we can match to the account's email address, so we may reply to confirm it's you. We delete the account within 30 days and email you when it's done. Please don't include your child's health details in your message.
What is deleted
If you're a parent or guardian: your account (name, email, phone and sign-in), your links to your children and their practices, and your devices' notification tokens. If you set up your own family space in HootCare and you're its only grown-up, the whole family space is deleted too: every child profile, activity, practice result, voice recording, message, video and stored file in it. If another parent or guardian still belongs to that family space, it stays with them.
If you're a clinician on your own: your account and your whole practice: every child profile, activity, practice result, note, message, voice recording and stored file. Parents who are only connected to your practice lose their accounts too.
What is kept, and why
- A clinic's records. If a speech practice invited you, it is your child's provider of record and must keep its clinical records by law. Deleting your account removes your access and your profile, but not the clinic's records. To ask for a child's records to be erased, contact the practice, or email us and we'll work with the practice on it.
- Security audit records. Entries that record which account did what, and when, are kept for at least six years, as U.S. health-privacy law (HIPAA) requires, and are then deleted. They can't be changed.
- Backups. Encrypted database backups, used only to recover from an outage, expire on their own within 30 days.
- Subscriptions. Deleting your account doesn't cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription. Cancel it in your device's subscription settings. Apple and Google keep their own purchase records.
Delete some of your data and keep your account
- A child's data: a parent or guardian can email support@hootcare.io from the address on their account, or ask the child's practice.
- Practice clips: turn off keeping a child's practice clips in the app's Settings. Kept clips, and raw AI conversation records, are deleted automatically after 90 days in any case.
